Hey guys, Billie Tarascio from Modern Law Practice. I am working remote today, my entire team’s working remote. There’s one person in the office, and so far, things are going very, very smoothly. There’s a couple of things we’ve run into and we’ve started talking about.
Number one is getting signature stamps for attorneys to allow paralegals to sign on behalf of attorneys using a signature stamp. So that’s something that we haven’t needed before, because there’s always been at least one attorney in the office to sign for people. Now that we’re not doing that, we’re going to go ahead and look into that.
The other thing that is happening, is there’s so much uncertainty with the courts. Different judges are doing different things. We’ve got different orders coming down, canceling hearings, except whenever necessary, and then there’s a lot of discretion as to what that means. So we have no idea what’s happening there. So one of the things that I’ve done is reached out to a local mediation group that has done arbitration before, to see if they would agree to do online arbitration for issues. That way, if we have clients who need to get in front of a judge and the judicial system shuts down, and the courts shut down, at least we can continue their case and continue with law and order, at least somehow.
So we’re working through those details. I reached out to them today, they were extremely accessible. I think if we, as a legal community come together, we’re going to be able to get through this just fine, and all we need is some creative problem solving, and to continue to support one another, and put these things out there.
So that’s what I got for today. All in all, things are going well. We have started moving people’s things home to really set them up in their home office long term, we’re getting word that it doesn’t look like our kids are going to be going back to school this year. So we’re preparing for this to last a long time, and we will be pleasantly surprised if anything changes, but if it doesn’t, we’ll be ready to continue to work. And we’re also putting out there for other family law attorneys that we have an infrastructure that can support you.
